I
found a NewYear’s resolution list I wrote when I was 17-years-old
<enter paper hoarder here> and on that list included:
Be more
quiet!
Here I am, 33 years later (yes I’m 50, so put your calculator away),
and I can’t say that I’ve ever mastered that resolution, and quite honestly,
I’m glad I haven’t. I would not be the
Communicator Queen
I am today,
through publishing this magazine, stand-up comedy and teaching high
school students. I only wish I had embraced my talkative-self back then,
instead of denying my God-given character quality (while some would
argue the quality part). So with that, I bring you our next “talkative”
issue about homelessness (pg 14), finding your career path with author
and speaker Sean Aiken (pg 30), getting fit through Zumba with Beto
(pg 34), teacher and communicator Barbara Cowan (pg 28), and ghost
communicators with Cali Ghost Girls (pg 26).Maybe I wrote that reso-
lution after my stepbrother Billy Goodin kept singing to me, what I
think he wanted to dub as my theme song, by Joe Jones and Reginald
Hall,
“You Talk Too Much”
with words, “You talk too much you even
worry my pet”… but again, I’m glad I didn’t listen – probably because
I was too busy talking. Still, if it wasn’t for this talkative journalist, who
typically had more questions than answers, you would not be holding
in your hands the stories about your neighbors; truly inspiring people.
Happy NewYear’s and really think through those NewYear’s Resolu-
tions. Stay true to yourself, even if it worries your pets. OH, the photo
to the right was taken in San Francisco last year.
