I
hope you enjoy our
inaugural issue of Delta Living
Magazine. From concept to
print, it’s finally here to entertain,
educate, inspire and motivate you
tolivealifeyou’vealwaysdreamed
of, even if it’s vicariously through
the stories of those we interview.
Together, with a creative and fun
team of writers, photographers,
graphic designers, assistants, copy
editors andad sales reps,we’veput
our talents together to celebrate
you throughout our 24 pages.
In this first quarterly issue, we
had a chance to sit down with
comedian Johnny Steele (page
8), who hails from Pittsburg, to
find out what’s happening in his
career of making people laugh.
We listened to the Delta’s best
singers at the Byron Delta Lions
Club’s 6th Annual East Bay
Idol 3 in Brentwood on June
10, featured on pages 10 and
11. I also had the opportunity to
interview an amazing woman
who put Asperger’s Syndrome
on the map – Temple Grandin.
If you have no idea what this
disorder is about, you will by the
end of this article on page 16.
The summer heat has hit, so
check out Dru Cartier’s summer
salad recipe on page 18. I made
it, photographed it, and gobbled it
up! Yum. Enjoy Kemala Purcell’s
inspiring weight loss story in
her ad on page 19. Or make a
mid-year resolution to get back
in shape and join Delta Valley
Athletic Club in Brentwood,
where you can take one of Kim
Troughton’s fitness classes.
Read about her on page 12.

Looking for something
interesting to do this summer with
other like-minded peeps? Read
Heather Westropp’s fun article on
page 13 about Meetup, a social
media site where you can either
join or create your own meet-
up group, doing what you love.
Feel the need to lighten it up a
little and not take life so seriously?
Read about my hoarding issues in
Funny Side Up on page 15. Once
you’ve been inspired to clean
out the garage, and you find your
dusty golf clubs or your needs-
oil-badly road bike, take it to Sign
Pro in Brentwood to have them
do a custom hydrographic on it!
They can cover virtually any non-
porous, solid item. See their ad on
the back cover of the magazine.
You might need a tissue or two
when you read
Happy Dreams, I
Love You, God Bless You
on page
21, but I hope you’ll be inspired to
embrace eachmoment you still have
with your mom, dad or caretaker.
It’ll be five years this September that
my mom passed away. I dedicate
this first issue to my mother, Sylvia
Goodin, whom I know, would
be so proud of her “daughter
number two” with this publication.
Enjoy!
