The City of Half Moon
Bay and the Boys
& Girls Club of the
Coastside have enjoyed
a productive partnership
over the last several
years, in bringing
recreation program
opportunities to the
entire community. As
of July 1, the City will
be resuming direct
management of our recreation program, with our
sincere thanks to the Boys & Girls Club.
As many of you know, the City used to manage its
recreation program. When faced with the serious
financial challenges during the mid– and late–
2000s, we made the tough decision to contract for
those services as a way of reducing the City’s costs.
We first contracted with the City of San Carlos to
run the program, and then since 2014 with the Boys
& Girls Club of the Coastside, which helped to bring
more programs to the community, created the
Teen Club, partnered on the new skate park, and
managed facility rentals.
Now, with a healthy financial outlook and
a determination to continue providing the
community with great enrichment opportunities,
the City is proud to once again operate this
program – just as we did before the financial issues
that forced a reduction in programs.
I want to thank the Boys & Girls Club for their fine
work in bringing a new level of excitement and
activity to the Ted Adcock Community Center,
the Train Depot, and other recreation program
sites. As our partner the Club was able to provide
something fun, educational, and enriching nearly
every day, and many, many community members
have participated.
As the City resumes management of the recreation
program, I can assure you that service to the
community will remain front and center as our key
focus. We will continue to provide programs that
bring our community members together, that are
affordable, and that continue to offer great benefit
to the people of Half Moon Bay.

Half Moon Bay y de la costa:
La ciudad de Half Moon Bay y el Boys & Girls
Club de la costa han disfrutado de una relación
productiva durante los últimos años, en los cuales
se han traído programas recreativos para toda
la comunidad. A partir del 1 de julio, la ciudad
retomará la administración directa nuestro
programa de recreación y queremos darle las
gracias sinceras al Boys & Girls Club.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, la ciudad solía
administrar este programa; no obstante, cuando
nos enfrentamos a difíciles desafíos económicos
a mediados y finales de la década de 2000,
tomamos la difícil decisión de subcontratar estos
servicios como forma de reducir los costos de la
ciudad. Al inicio contratamos a la ciudad de San
Carlos para que manejara el programa y después,
a partir de 2014, el Boys & Girls Club ayudó a traer
más programas a la comunidad, creó el club para
jóvenes, contribuyó con el nuevo parque para
patinar y administró el alquiler de instalaciones.
Ahora, con un nuevo panorama económico
saludable y la decisión de continuar
proporcionándole a la comunidad oportunidades
para enriquecer su vida, la ciudad se enorgullece de
poder manejar nuevamente este programa, justo
como era antes de los problemas económicos que
nos forzaron a reducir programas.
Quiero agradecerle al Boys & Girls Club por su
excelente trabajo, por brindarnos tantas emociones
y actividades en el centro comunitario Ted Adcock,
el museo del ferrocarril (Train Depot) y otros
sitios del programa de recreación. Como nuestro
socio, el club pudo proporcionar oportunidades
de diversión y educación casi todos los días, y
muchísimos miembros de la comunidad han
participado en estas actividades.
Cuando la ciudad retome la administración del
programa, puedo garantizarles que nuestro
objetivo principal seguirá siendo el servicio a la
población: continuaremos ofreciendo programas
que nos unan como comunidad, a precios
accesibles, y que sigan otorgando grandes
beneficios a los habitantes de Half Moon Bay.
