ADVERTORIAL
If you’ve never tried Zumba
before, and one of your New
Year’s resolutions is to lose weight
and feel great, then you need to
join Certi ed Zumba Instructor
Beto Gallardo’s class, one of the
newest instructors at Delta Valley
Athletic Club.
While he’s new to Delta, he’s
not new to Zumba, which simply
put, is an easy-to-follow, Latin-
inspired, calorie-burning dance
tness-party.
He’s been teaching Zumba for
the last two years, and started his
Zumba career at Triton College
and West Chicago High School
in Illinois, where he worked as
a GED teacher. He’s certi ed in
both Michigan and California.
One of the most popular and
exciting dance workouts in the
world, Zumba is taught in over
160 countries, and was created by
dancer and choreographer Alberto
“Beto”Perez during the 1990s. It’s
an aerobic tness choreography
that incorporates hip-hop, soca,
samba, merengue, mambo, martial
arts, squats, lunges, Bollywood and
some belly dance moves. It gets
under your skin in a motivation-
al way, regardless of your dance
abilities. Zumba students can burn
anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calo-
ries in one session.
“My goal is to positively im-
pact and uplift people’s lives
through the invigorating and re-
storative power of dance, no mat-
ter what their physical condition. I
enjoy inspiring others to improve
themselves physically, mentally
and spiritually,” said Beto, who
hails from Mexico City and be-
gan teaching Zumba in Chicago,
Illinois.
He teaches three di erent,
60-minute Zumba programs to
meet your needs: Zumba Basic
Steps, Zumba Gold for the active
adult, beginners or others who
need special modi cations for
their success, and ZumbaAtomic,
speci cally designed for children
ages 4 – 12.
“I love teaching Zumba; it’s
for everybody. My students love
my classes because I help them
to lose weight and change their
lives. I promote healthy lifestyles
and staying t,” said Beto, who
also teaches at Studio Dance in
Livermore and participates in fun-
draisers and events in Chicago and
California.
His students typically don’t
need a doctor’s permission to take
his classes, unless they have a spe-
cial condition.
With a degree in Biochemi-
cal Engineering, Beto admits
teaching Zumba and inspiring
his students to move to the Latin
rhythms, is his true passion in life.
He also understands the dread
most people feel when it comes
to exercising.
“I promise you, you will have
fun! Many people don’t like to
work-out because they don’t feel
motivated.When they do Zumba,
they feel totally di erent. Feeling
the music, dancing, burning calo-
ries, making friends and smiling –
it’s a di erent concept to working
out,” said Beto.“It’s di erent from
Jazzercise, because of the music
and the dance style.”
