o you ever get the itch to meet new people? Or do you sometimes want to
do something your friends simply aren’t interested in? It would be a bit
strange to go out and ask random strangers to hang out with you, so what’s
a lonely person to do? Well Meetup.com just might be the perfect solution.
Meetup.com is a website for people seeking community. This free service allows you
to connect with other people who live close to you and do things that are meaningful,
interesting or just fun.
Almost anything you can imagine has a group on Meetup. Are you a really terrible
violinist? Join the Really Terrible String Orchestra of SF Bay group. Are you an
anthropomorphic animal enthusiast, also known as a furry? Well there’s a group for
you too. If you’re a geek seeking fellow gamers to show off your skills, you can join the
Sacramento Geeks group. Or join the Paint Is Thicker than Water group, a group for
artists, art students and anyone with a creative soul.
There are groups for Schnauzer lovers, hoop dancers, meditators, raw foodists, fish
farmers, embroiderers, and kayakers, just to name a few. There are even groups for
people who are uncomfortable with groups (the Sacramento Shyness and Social Anxiety
Meetup, for example). Honestly, there is a group for everyone!
The goal of Meetup.com is
 “
to revitalize local community and help people around the
world self-organize.” In other words, this website is all about community - meeting and
connecting with other people for the benefit of our own humanity and the world. With
over 103,564 groups on the website, including 587 near Oakley, California alone, this
website seems to be achieving its goal in leaps and bounds.
No person should have to live life all alone, and Meetup is a wonderful tool to make sure
you don’t have to. This website makes it easy to find like-minded people to spend time
with. Simply sign up for a free account, search for a group by keyword or area, and then
choose and join one. Or, if there are no groups to your liking, you can create a new one.
There has never been an easier way to make new friends!
