Refunds: How to Apply for Them
Refer to the semester calendar on inside cover for add/drop dates. Add and drop your
classes via Peralta’s PASSPORT Registration System or at BCC’s Admissions Office.
How to Add and Drop Classes
After the Semester Begins
How to Add Classes
1.
Check with Peralta’s Passport Online
Registration System or the Admissions and
Records (A&R) Office to determine if the
class is open.
2.
If a class is open, you can enroll via
Passport or seek assistance from Student
Ambassadors and the Admissions and Re-
cords Office.
3.
If a class is closed, you will be placed
on a Wait List. You must attend the first class
meeting and obtain a Wait List Permission
Number from your instructor.
Pay Your Fees
1.
You must pay your fees when you enroll or
your registration MAY be cancelled and a
hold will be placed on your account.
2.
Obtain your registration receipt from
the Cashier’s Office.
Withdrawal from Classes
A withdrawal reported to the District Admis-
sions and Records Office prior to Census Day,
on the same day as the last day to drop classes
and receive a refund, shall not be noted on your
academic record.
A “W” symbol will be recorded on
your transcript when you withdraw after the
last day to drop classeswithout a “W, ” through
the end of the fourteenth week of instruction.
The academic record of a student who has
not withdrawn from instructor within the time
allowedbythis policymust reflectagradeother
than“W”asawardedbytheinstructor.The“W”
symbolshallonlybeusedtodetermineprogress
probation, NOT academic probation. Refer to
the calendar on p. 4 in this class schedule to
find deadline dates for dropping a class with a
refund, with no grade, or with a “W.”
How to Drop Classes
1.
It is your responsibility to drop classes
you are not attending.
2.
You may drop classes via the Passport
Online Registration System.
3.
If you do not drop a class by the last
day to drop a full-term class and receive a
refund, you will be charged for the class.
4.
Donotassumethatyourinstructorwilldropyou
from class if you do not attend class meet-
ings.
Instructors are not required to drop
students.
Youmay receive an “F” grade if you
do not follow procedures to drop your class.
5.
If you must drop all classes, follow the drop
procedures above and withdraw from your
classes via the Passport Online Registration
System.
6.
If you wish to change sections of the
same course, you may do so on the Passport
Online Registration System.
For Class Cancellations—
The state-mandated enrollment fee will be
fully refunded if an action of the college
(e.g., class cancellation) prevents you from
attending class.
You may request a refund up to the end of
the following term in which the refund was
due.
After that time you will not be eligible
for the refund.
For Regular Session Full-Term Classes—
• If you cancel your registration prior
to the first day of instruction, or if you
officially withdraw from classes prior to
Census Day,
you shall be entitled to a full
refund, less a $10 processing fee (charged
whether or not the class was attended).
• If you officially complete a change of
program prior to Census Day,
and as
a result reduce the number of units in
which you are enrolled, you are entitled
to a refund if the change places you in a
different enrollment fee category. You
shall not be subject to the processing fee.
• If you pay an enrollment fee of less than
$10,
and cancel your registration or
withdraw from all classes before the
deadline, the processing fee shall equal
the enrollment fee.
No refund of the Enrollment Fee will
be made to any student who withdraws
from classes after Census Day
. Please
refer to deadline dates in the calendar on
p. 4 in this class schedule.
For Members of the Armed Forces—
Members of an active or reserve military unit
who receive orders compelling a withdrawal
from courses, may, upon petition, receive
a full refund of the Enrollment Fee unless
academic credit is awarded.
For Variable-Unit Classes—
No refund shall be made for variable units
not earned by the student.

No refund will be made to you
after the “no grade record date” for regular
session classes. You may appeal to the vice
president of student services to waive re-
strictions of this refund policy for cases of
extreme hardship.
For Short-Term Classes
and Open Entry/Open Exit Classes—
If you enrolled in a short-term or open-
entry/open-exit class, you will receive
a 100 percent refund if you officially
withdraw before the ten percent point of
the length of the course. Please refer to
deadline dates in the calendar on p. 4 of
this class schedule.
Refunds for International Students—
A full refund of Nonresident Tuition and
Capital Outlay Fee will be made for any
class which is canceled by Berkeley City
College.
Also, a 100 percent refund (minus
a $20 processing fee) will be made for any
class from which you withdraw through the
last day to drop regular session credit classes
and receive a refund.
A50 percent refund of tuition will
be made upon your official withdrawal from
all classes after the last day to drop regular
session credit classes and you will receive a

regardless of whether you later decide to
drop classes.
